It's been a long time...

It has been a long time since I last wrote a blog, but reading my old blogs last night while trying to sleep inspired me to start writing them again.

I couldn't believe how much I ranted over the state of the country in the past, and how much I had written about how our glorious leaders were destroying our country. It really saddens my heart to know that, even though we have a new political party leading the country, nothing has changed. In fact it has got worse.

Big business chains on the High Street, such as HMV, Jessops, Comet and most recently Blockbuster, are going into administration and small businesses can not compete with the internet. Our glorious government is responding to the problems in this country by increasing taxes, and reducing the help and support it gives the less well off by cutting essential services and benefits. These lost, or reduced, services are increasing the level of unemployment, increasing the cost of the national benefits bill while reducing the tax revenue. This results in our government deciding that even more cuts are needed as they have less money, and the circle continues while society slowly crumbles away.

It is about time that they (the government) opened their eyes and realised that they are doing it all wrong. To clear the deficit (which is why they claim they are making these cuts) they need to increase employment. This will have the effect of increasing tax revenue, reduce the national benefits bill, reduce unemployment and will give businesses a chance as people will have more cash to spend.

It is generally the case that the people who spend the most are the people who are not rich, but those that have enough to live at a reasonable level of comfort. They are not necessarily home owners (as these are a rapidly diminishing breed in our society), but those who work (or not) and have a modest, but reasonable, income. It is these individuals, and families, that keep the economy buoyant. However, things have now got so bad that even these people have stopped, or greatly reduced, their spending.

Until things change this trend is going to continue, but the only people who can effect the needed changes are sat in their ivory towers, oblivious to the positive effects that a little logic and common sense could have on this country and its economy.

I wonder if that will ever change
